It’s still pretty darn hot here in Georgia, but my mind and heart want to start pretending it is fall no matter the temps. Blame the four fat fall fashion magazines currently sitting on my coffee table. We have been teased with a few cool mornings so I’m going with it and wishing for it start happening more frequently and lasting throughout the day.
So I am a big fan of striped clothing. It is a super classic print that never ever goes away. But I know some people struggle with thinking it’s a summer look because it feels more nautical. Which when that word “nautical” comes to mind you think sea life, which translates into hot, summer, and the beach!
But, with that being said, you can TOTALLY wear your striped tops into fall!! Here are three things you can do to make the striped transition into the cooler season without adding the obvious coat…
1. Work a felt floppy hat. Hats are one of the easiest wardrobe additions to show a change of seasons and add such flair to any outfit. Just make sure it is in a material like felt or wool and not straw (too summery)! And a camel colored hat is totally wearable right now even when warmer temps are sticking around, since the color is lighter than black.
2. Add an animal print something! Add anything animal print – it can be leopard, cow, giraffe, or zebra! Take your pick! Whether it be a purse, a belt, scarf, or shoes, pulling in animal prints makes the combo look fresh and fun and almost distracts from the nautical feel:)
3. Pull in a berry lip & colored eyeliner. If you do a true red mouth, it feels very expected and more summery. So go a step deeper and pinker by doing a berry colored mouth. And whatever color your stripes are, add a pop of color along your upper lid with your eyeliner! I chose to match my navy stripes with my navy liner, (if you don’t own a navy liner, get this one fast because it’ll be gone soon at $10 online at Ulta!!) but if my stripes had been black and white or camel and white, I’d go plum purple or forest green eyeliner! Think darker/autumn versions of purple and green.
