We have at least 6 princess crowns around our house due to my four year old daughters love of dressing up. The one shown above makes 7 and happens to be my own personal one I bought when I dressed up as the evil queen from Snow White for Halloween two years ago.
I have noticed whenever Vivian decides to place one of her crowns on top of her head, she stands a little taller and walks with a strut. Oh and she always smiles when wearing one. She thinks she is hot stuff and invincible. Even her brothers can try to mess with her (as they always do) and she just looks at them sideways as if to say, “you’re crazy, I’m the boss around here, don’t touch me, I look too pretty.” I like this mentality.
So why do I think this idea of every girl wearing a crown (invisible or not) should be an inspiration for everyday life?
Because wearing an actual plastic costume crown or just pretending one is perched on top of your head, teaches you first and foremost – to BE SILLY. It is important in life to not take yourself too seriously all of the time. It’s hard for me to connect with or surround myself with people that have no sense of humor or are businesslike all the time. Life is too short not to smile or laugh and it’s the cheapest way to brighten another persons day.
Secondly, when seeing my daughter wearing one, I realize it creates GREAT CONFIDENCE in her just from this one small accessory. Granted, we lose our crowns (figuratively speaking) when we have a bad day, or something didn’t go as planned, or maybe someone said something that hurt your feelings. That’s totally normal. And so I also want to be able to teach all of my children, how to deal with the hard times when your crown (aka, confidence) falls off.
Pick that thing back up off the ground and secure it to your head with a bobby pin or something and get back to Queen status!! Don’t let a small stumbling block make you feel like the jester of the castle.
Seeing the confidence a crown produces reminds me of a few things that I will want to pass onto my daughter regarding that feeling when wearing a one…

Well I certainly found my King who isn’t afraid to be silly with me and I know for a fact he was raised by a queen thanks to my sweet mother in law!
I think I might start implementing wearing my crown more while doing dishes or laundry – just to feel a bit more regal and make those boring chores more fun!
