I get into color meaning and what emotions that different colors invoke. RED has always been one of my favorite colors – from lipsticks, to clothing, and even home decor. You can also add red sprinkles and red velvet cake to that list. Here’s a few of my favorite crimson colored things I’m looking to wear on repeat this summer according to my Instagram roll…
My most recent nail polish purchase, OPI “My Chihuahua Bites.” I might have even bought it for the sheer fact I love the colorful name!! A girl can never have too many shades of red polish right?? I categorize this red as a blend of “hot red orange with a dash of pink” thrown in. Red fingers and toes are perfect for any season, but especially for the summertime.
According to the ColorWheelPro.com… “RED is an emotionally intense color. It is associated with love, passion, determination, power, energy, and danger.” Maybe this is the reason you see so many countries use red in their flags and major brands also incorporating this powerful shade into their logos. Think Target, Coca Cola, H&M, and McDonald’s.
I have been on the lookout for a cute pair of RED SHOES to wear this summer, and found these Matisse Zanda elastic strap gladiator sandals from Nordstrom, that are perfect in price (only $61). I am a huge gladiator sandal fan and love how they zip up the back and have stretchy pieces for added comfort and great arch support. Red shoes give me a Dorothy moment (Wizard of Oz reference) every day! Gladiators back in the day were associated with strength and courage, so having this shoe style in a shade of red just makes sense. Taco loves to eat shoes and shoelaces, so I have to make sure that my furry little guy stays far away from my cute footwear!
And let’s not forget about RED LIPS. I’m sporting Stila “Carina” Stay All Day liquid lipstick, $22, in the above pic. I’ve owned this color for awhile and it is bright bright bright!! Did I mention it’s bright? It’s got an orange coral base to it and if you are looking for a bold matte look, this lipstick is where it’s at. It occasionally gets a little dry, as lots of long wear lip colors do, so make sure that you know what you’re getting yourself into when purchasing it. What I love about wearing hats like my BCBG straw fedora, $32, is that you don’t have to do much eye makeup (or any at all) and just wear a bold lipstick and you’re done!!
Other favorite red lip products I can suggest are :
- L’Oreal Pro Long Wear Lip Color in “Captivating By Cerise” (bright poppy red – remember my in depth blog post with photos on these L’oreal formulas here),
- MAC lipsticks in “Russian Red” (bold and opaque red)
- Revlon “Rich Girl Red” (a more sheer easy to wear red)
- Nars “Dragon Girl Red” (matte crayon true red – blog post featuring it on me here)
I guess you notice that when I wear a red lipstick, I prefer it to be matte or have little shine to it. This is my own personal presence, but I feel that super shiny and glossy reds look a bit, ugh, tacky and cheap. Matte reds feels more sophisticated. Again, just personal. If you’ve got a great red gloss suggestion, I’m all ears!!
BTW – Nordstrom is having their Half Yearly Sale right now so don’t forget to check them out and see what kind of red accessories, makeup, and clothing you can add to your summer wardrobe!! You can shop my favorite red things mentioned from the images below.
