It happens every year since I had my first son 5 years ago. When I know that Mother’s Day is approaching, I have this beautiful vision of what my relaxing Mother’s Day will be like. I am wrong every year. I envision it will be filled with breakfast in bed, homemade gifts galore made by my children, beautiful weather, large bouquets of flowers given to me with a beautiful fragrance that fills my kitchen, and to top it off, that my children will be on their BEST behavior all day long and act like angels. Mother’s Day should be unlike any other day of the year right?? Not so much;-)
Now I did get to treat myself to a mani/pedi moment a few days before Mother’s Day, so I count this as one of those fantasy Mom’s day events bc it wouldn’t happen on a normal weekend- I ALWAYS do my own nails. I chose to go tomato red on my fingers (OPI’s Tasmanian Devil) and fluorescent pink on my toes (have no idea what shade this was called- just fun!!). This was 45 minutes of relaxing bliss- worth every penny.
Now when it came to actual Mother’s Day, life kind of continued on as usual with a few special moments sprinkled in (no breakfast in bed though)! My parents came up and spent the weekend with us, so I got up-to date photos taken with my mom and my kids.
We planned to have my 8 month old daughter dedicated at my husbands church he grew up in in, so that was going to be super special and a moment to remember. And a moment to remember it was. Not because everything went smoothly and drama free (like my vision was!), but bc my 3 yr old son (the little angel in blue above) decided to hijack the actual ceremony by throwing a humongous temper tantrum.!!
Insert photo of my son losing his mind bc he was tired of standing up at the front of the church in front of the WHOLE congregation.
This is why Mother’s Day is like every other day- despite this nationally recognized holiday, my kids still act like kids and not proper adults- go figure. I had hoped for the perfect family picture in front of this whole church, but what I got was a real life moment. Luckily my hubby and I were able to chuckle about it afterward, and the whole church seemed to get a kick out of this random act of craziness bc we heard a few giggles rather than gasps!!
I’ve always said that motherhood is the most rewarding job I could take on, but it’s also the most challenging. Case in point- my son was challenging to say the least this morning, but then you get moments like this video I caught of my baby girl saying her first word at 8 months old…”MAMA!” Wait for the end when she finally decides to say it….
You couldn’t ask for a more perfect Mother’s Day gift than that!!
So even though I didn’t get gifts galore or the perfectly behaved children today, I was blessed to share another day with all of my precious children who made me a mother in the first place. And that’s enough to make it a HAPPY Mother’s Day!
