What Is The Oldest Beauty Product You've Ever Used?

Going on vacation with my folks is always fun AND funny for many reasons. The two of them always come more prepared than this mother of 3 does when we head on a trip. Which is slightly ironic seeing as though I have more people to take care of and pride myself in list making! Of course, this go around was no different as I remembered every bit of my makeup bag, but forgot my shampoo and conditioner. So I raided my parents vanity after a hot and sandy day at the beach for some suds to wash my locks with. I used this product brought along by my father…

In my search to find this old school shampoo online to link somewhere to, I couldn’t find this product anywhere. This bottle I specifically remembered from my childhood- exact packaging, smell, and color. So why couldn’t I find this shampoo anywhere being sold on the worldwide web??

Then I asked my dad : “When and where did you buy this vintage shampoo?”

Dad : “Oh, I don’t remember. I’ve had it for probably over 10 years. It’s my travel shampoo I only bring on trips with me. I’ve had it awhile.”

Me, in my mind : “What??!! You’ve kept this bottle alive for over 10 years and I just used it on my very expensive dye job??!”

To show you hold old this shampoo actually could be – this is the most recent ad I could find with a similar looking VO5 bottle. But how glamorous is this? Love the model shown looking Cleopatra-like and with the major sculpted cheekbones with blush?!! I can’t resist old school beauty ad campaigns.

So despite this shampoo I just used being 10+ years old, it actually made my hair really pretty and bouncy and full of body!! See for yourself…

This is by far, the oldest beauty product I’ve used in awhile. I’m sure I’ve got some really old lipsticks in my drawers at home, but I’m pretty positive none of them rival 10+ years! I pride myself in tossing old makeup and skin care products because their efficacy is usually no good, and at times ancient products can be bad for your skin because of bacteria that can accumulate over time.

Hopefully using a shampoo that was around the age of a 4th grader isn’t going to do any irreversible damage to my pricey color job. Even though my hair looked pretty darn good after using this, I’m not going to be of the mentality that old beauty products are like a fine wine and get better with age. And I might need to go buy my sweet father a new bottle of suds for his next trip.
