Eye makeup brush breakdown of 6 must have tools.
So many times having the right tools to do any project is the key to success. And I believe that to be very true when it comes to getting professional looking results out of your makeup. You wouldn’t use a flathead screwdriver to open a device that had a phillips head screw in it, right?? Using the correct makeup brushes are the fundamentals of makeup application.
Especially when it comes to eye makeup – the correct brushes mean you can define your eye makeup more accurately. You’re not still using the sponge applicators that came in your makeup palette from the drugstore…are you?? (insert emoji with the wide eyes expression!)
60 second videos on the eye makeup brushes you need.
Here are two short videos from my newest Instagram account, @JSMminute, (don’t forget to follow me there!) highlighting my favorite eye makeup brushes and why and where to use them. The first is for eye brows and the second is for the actual eye bed and lashes.
Brow Video featuring :
(1) Sonia Kashuk steel eyelash and eyebrow comb, $8 – the steel teeth of this comb is the perfect way to de-clump those lashes after mascara because we all know those plastic ones do NOT work! And the stiff brow bristles allow you to comb the brows into place and even a spritz of hairspray on this end can help lock those brows in place giving an even neater eyebrow shape.
(2) MAC #208 angled brow brush, $20 – use this to apply any colored powder or pomade products to the brows to give realistic and lighter fullness. Using a brush like this takes away the intimidation of using a pencil that can look harsh if you don’t know how to use it.
Eye Makeup Breakdown Video featuring :
(1) Stila Cosmetics #15 dual sided brush, $32 – this is a two for one brush! the flat side helps to apply all over color or from lash to crease, and the tapered rounded end is perfect for playing up your crease right there in the eye socket for more drama!
(2) MAC #221 mini tapered blending brush, $25 – this is one of my all time favorite eye makeup brushes and helps to blend all of your eye makeup seemlessly together and can also be used in the crease for a lighter wash of color.
(3) Stila Cosmetics #4 fine tipped eye liner brush (sold out, similar brush from Bobbi Brown here on sale, $25) – this is for precise blending over the lash line with eye shadow for a softer liner look, or can be used to smudge an eye pencil/liner liner and make it appear softer without getting it all over the lid.
(4) Kevyn Aucoin Eye Lash Curler – curling your lashes help to open up the eye and make them look longer. You always use this tool BEFORE you apply mascara so they don’t stick and pull lashes out. My trick on best practice to use this tool is in the video!
