Isn’t it the best when you’re hanging out with your girlfriends, or even following your fave influencer on social media, and they launch into a convo about their go-to beauty + style things?? Like, “I found THE most perfect skin tint,” OR “you have GOT to try this painless magical hair remover that gets rid of my mustache,” OR “Oh my gosh, these jeans have the cutest pockets and fit like a dream on my 46 year old body!!” *did you catch that these links go to my actual faves in these categories??!*
Well in the spirit of sharing (which isn’t that what blogs should still be about??) I’m going to share with you 5 beauty things that I use at least 6 out of 7 days of the week. My 5 most pretty powerful products! Of course I could add more to this list (because I wear and use a LOT of dang makeup!) but I like to keep these blog posts quick and to the point. My hope is that you’ll leave this post inspired by one or more of these 5 things that sound like something that could benefit your own beauty routine!
We are close to entering a new season, Fall is officially coming up on September 22nd, so it’s the perfect time to start not only switching up our wardrobes to cozy sweaters and cardigans, but to also update our bathroom vanities and makeup bags to reflect the changing seasons.
(1) This Vanity Makeup Mirror.
The #1 thing about being able to do your makeup well – is you need to be able to SEE what you’re doing!! And being 46 yrs old, my vision isn’t what it used to be, so having an amazing mirror to be able to see how good (or bad) I’m doing my makeup in, is a must.
Shout out to my friend Dani who told me about this Sharper Image Vanity Mirror, $99, and swore up and down it was the best one she’d ever owned and I needed it. Of course I ordered it, and by golly if she wasn’t right! Not only does it have a spot to charge your phone on it where it sits up right and you can see the screen at the same time, but it’s got 5X – 10X magnification, an LED halo light with different brightness, and a catchall storage base (my rings go here). I use it every single day and it makes applying makeup more enjoyable and I can see exactly what I’m doing!
(2) These Pixi Beauty Tonics.
I never ever start my makeup application without applying one of these first, then adding moisturizer. Pixi Beauty has a hold of the skin toner market IMO. I honestly can’t decide which one I like the best, because they all do so many wonderful things and are very affordable.
I like the glow tonic for it’s 5% glycolic acid to help exfoliate my dry skin, I like the antioxidant serum-tonic because it’s feels so hydrating like a toner-serum-essence all in one, and then the collagen tonic to help with volumizing my deflated old skin and rejuvinating it!

(3) This Neutrals Eyeshadow Palette.
I’m a professional makeup artist so of course I own countless eyeshadow palettes. But this one, the Morphe 9T Neutral Territory, I can’t stop grabbing and using. As a matter of fact, I just bought my second one. When most of the time, we use a shadow palette up and then just move on!
But if you dig wearing warm browns, tans, and yummy rich variations of copper and bronzed shimmer shades – this one is your gal. It has a matte ivory shade for the brow bone which I always use, and then includes an inky matte black for drama. Seriously, you can’t beat the price – $14 – and the huge square mirror included makes it a game changer.
(4) The Iconic Eyelash Curler.
Have you quit using an eyelash curler in your older age? Why?? It’s definitely the “push-up bra for aging eyes” and lifts those puny eyelashes! I can’t impress how important it is to use one before you apply your mascara – specifically the one and only Shiseido style. It’ll make your straight lashes appear almost 50% longer and it takes less than one minute to curler both sets of lashes.
And if I hear one more time, “but it will pull out all of my eyelash hairs!” No, Jan, it won’t. Just be careful and don’t act like a crazy person when using! I use one every single day because I don’t go a day without mascara and I have yet to pull out any of my eyelashes OR my clients lashes – ever…
Battling dark circles is pretty much an everyday affair for me. And there’s nothing that’ll make my husband ask me quicker, “did you get enough sleep last night??” than if I forget to use this product. The search for the best concealer is never ending, but I think I’ve gotten pretty close to the end of the race when I found this Natasha Denona Hy-Glam brightening and hydrating concealer.
I go between using shades RN3 and P2. She offers 4 multi-purpose undertones – neutral, rosy, peach, and yellow. The applicator is the perfect skinny doe foot shape for precise application and I love the consistency, coverage, and that it is super hydrating. This is an elite formula in my opinion.
