Beauty YouTube videos are a wildly popular topic when it comes to learning about makeup and how to do makeup.
You can watch and learn anything from :
- specific reviews on products you are curious about,
- the do’s the don’ts of makeup application,
- the what to buy and try, and even what not to buy or try!
- the how to do X,Y, and Z with makeup
The topics in the beauty and skincare realm are endless really.
Take my very recent video topic of the fascinating history behind one of the most popular selling red lipsticks of all time! (Try since 1952 it’s been on the market!)

Now for some real talk. I have had my YouTube channel for quite some time now. As in YEARS.
However, to be completely forthcoming, I haven’t been consistent whatsoever with recording and uploading videos.
My reasoning behind my inconsistency stems from one thing – they are SO TIME CONSUMING TO CREATE.
I say this, but my husband actually does ALL of the editing for me, which is really the hardest and most time consuming part of the process. Luckily, that’s his profession and I don’t know the first thing about editing software, so I use this my advantage 😉 But even so, it’s very hard work to find make time to prep, record, and promote YouTube videos.
So here’s the positive side – I acknowledge my YouTube consistency faults! I have seen, recognize, and acknowledge my pattern of getting into making them, then falling off the wagon within a couple weeks because they take up so much time. Then I like to complain about WHY my subscribers aren’t growing!! Ha! Go figure.
In my defense, keeping up with my YouTube presence is also in addition to many other things besides motherhood. Like writing for this blog and promoting it along with the other other social media outlets attached to said blog (Pinterest, Insta, Facebook, etc), continuing to work with my virtual makeup lesson clients, AND working as an actual makeup artist. Which thankfully, my in person jobs are coming back!! So it’s all a lot.
But, excuses, excuses right?!
So why, if I’m doing all of this moaning about creating YouTube videos, am I wanting to get BACK into having a consistent YouTube presence?
Simply because I believe now more than ever, women over the age of 40 need to see more faces in their age category on YouTube. Especially when it comes to beauty advice and guidance!
We are in a demographic of makeup users that are not highly marketed to by cosmetic companies.
Over 40 bloggers and YouTubers like myself, are also not a demographic that are offered many sponsored opportunities to promote actual makeup.
Let me clarify. I often get contacted to promote ANTI-aging skincare products. Which is great, don’t get me wrong, I do love my skincare. BUT, I also really love the magic that actual makeup (eyeshadows, eyeliners, lipstick, etc) provides for someone my age!
The mature gals have lots of buying power AND we want to look good.
Contrary to popular belief, we are NOT giving up on ourselves just because of our age!!
I am hopeful that more cosmetic brands will start recognizing this and amp up marketing makeup to us and using us in their ads and sponsored content…instead of just pushing anti-aging skincare on us all the time.
Why YouTube?
It seems there are a gazillion beauty YouTubers out there in their teens and 20’s, but trying to find someone above 40 is a bit more challenging to find in the space.
Even as an expert in my field, I still watch videos to learn from others, because you can ALWAYS learn something new and educate yourself.
Clicking on a video with a 20-something talking about how to do concealer on an eye bed with no wrinkles, makes no sense to watch at my age! So I want to be a channel where women that are my age can feel like they’re actually being spoken to by someone who knows what it feels like to have forehead wrinkles and eyelids that are starting to droop a little! And guess what, ALL of those things are okay.
I love my blog and enjoy the writing aspect. However, I do feel that seeing someone in action on a video provides a whole other level of being able to grasp a specific makeup technique and understanding. Most people would rather watch a video than read an article anyway right??
With YouTube, the user is typically there to find (1) a solution to a problem, (2) improve a skill, or (3) for entertainment. The users are you, the readers, followers, and subscribers.
So my goal with my JennySue Makeup YouTube channel aims to provide all 3 of the above in some form or fashion with each video. Also, in a world where most of us are on the go and don’t have much time to sit and watch a 20-30 minute video, mine will all aim to be short and to the point!!
Now I invite you to go subscribe to my channel if you haven’t already. I am going to embed a couple more of my latest new videos for you to check out and watch below f you haven’t already seen them.
Hopefully you will learn something and be inspired to try a new technique or product or two! Enjoy my friends and I really appreciate you being here.
