EYEBROWS (noun) : The one thing on your body you can get into shape without exercising.
Let me introduce you to my new blog series AND Pretty Powerful podcast series, called, “TRY THIS TUESDAY.”
This series is going to be focusing on one topic, every Tuesday, something I think would benefit YOU to try out! Whether it be a new makeup product you should try, a beauty/skincare technique, or even a recipe or style tip to try, the options are endless! But they’ll all be things I know work personally for myself, that I’ll want to share with you!
And since this is the first installment of TRY THIS TUESDAY, I encourage you to also go take a listen to my podcast episode here that has even a bit more info included in it on the following subject. And don’t forget to subscribe to my Pretty Powerful podcast while you’re there;)
Now onto the try this topic you’ve probably already figured out…
Ladies, y’all know I preach and I preach and I PREACH about the importance of paying attention to and filling in your EYEBROWS. And for those of us that aren’t blessed with nice, full, symmetrical ones, we have to work a liiittttle harder to get them looking on point.
Most of the clients/friends that aren’t bothering with their eyebrows say the same thing, “it’s too much work” or “I can’t figure out how to do them so I just don’t.” Please don’t ignore your brows gals. They are the framework of what pulls your entire makeup look and face together. They literally do create a “frame” around your eyes and if they’re just so so, you’re not doing your face justice!
But it doesn’t have to be as daunting as you think. I’ve got one technique guaranteed to get you on your way to a better looking brow. And guess what? It doesn’t require a whole lotta skill!
Here’s the ONE eyebrow trick you should try…
What you’ll need :
- A great vanity mirror. If you haven’t invested in a good mirror you can see up close in, treat yourself! It makes a huge difference in being able to actually see what you’re doing 🙂 This $27 Amazon one is an amazing deal and includes LED lighting for an even better seeing experience!
- Your favorite type of brow product – can be an eyebrow pencil or a brow powder/pomade along with an angled brow brush. I’m using my new fave $5 Morphe Micro Brow pencil in “latte” here.
- A spoolie or eyebrow comb, or even an old toothbrush. The spoolie is included on the pencil I use.

How to :
In order to create a realistic, but great eyebrow shape, there is one specific thing you need to start doing.
Before you try to fill in anything, start the process by brushing your eyebrow hairs downward. Yes downward. This exposes the ROOTS of the hairs that you will then connect together with little short strokes.
This creates a stencil-like shape on the upper side of the brow that works with your natural brow shape. Again, you can use a pencil to connect them together or an angled brush with powder or pomade product, they all work.
Once you connect those hairs in a funny looking line, (and yes, it’ll look strange at first to see a line) you will then brush your brow hairs BACK up with your spoolie, and notice a cleaner and more distinct brow shape! Of course once you stroke the hairs back up you can then fill in the sparse spots (where you see skin popping through) as needed with more little hairlike strokes.
Why this works.
No one wants to be stuck with a scary unnatural brow shape. That’s why this technique works because you are working with the natural shape of the brow you were born with. It’s just allowing you to define it more and give it more structure.
Starting on TOP of the brow also helps create a more lifted eye bed appearance as opposed to starting on the UNDERNEATH side of your brows. If you focus too much on the underside, it could actually lower the look of your entire eyebrow, creating a heavy Frankenstein look. Yikes.
Let me know if you try this trick out and how it works for you! You can also listen to this podcast episode below as well.
