It’s one of those topics that I will ALWAYS CLICK ON >> What celebrity makeup artists are using in their kits…especially when it includes DRUGSTORE beauty products!
Honestly, drugstore makeup has come a long way my friends and there is no reason to be “brand snobby” and think that prestige and department store makeup is the ONLY way to go. You can certainly feel like a million bucks without spending a million bucks when it comes to your makeup.
Now if you’re more of a VIDEO content kind of person, you can watch this fun YouTube video I made below by clicking on the middle arrow. (well I didn’t actually make it, my hubby of Jawavifilms did bc he’s my video editor – I’m just the on screen talent! ha!)
I chat briefly on camera about each of these 5 celeb makeup artist approved products I’m discussing in this blog post. The cool thing is, I actually OWNED all of these products (except for one) before I even knew my fave artists were also using them!
Or if you’re more of a reader, you can just keep on scrolling to find out what they are…
I’m all about attainable + affordable drugstore beauty products that we can grab when we are also running to stock up on milk and paper towels. It’s called multi-tasking, right??
My Target runs are never fully complete without a new lipgloss or mascara 😉 Seriously, it’s a bit of a problem, but at least it’s a cheap problem!
I have researched and Googled multiple reputable websites that I get my beauty info from to see what popular mua’s are loving. Luckily there are lots of drugstore options that professional makeup artists are willing to admit to using on some of the biggest names in entertainment!
So today I have scaled it down to just 5 products that some of my personal favorite artists actually use on themselves and/or on their clients. There are so many more I came across, that I just might have to create a Part Two post for more budget beauties!
If a $9 blush is good enough for the red carpet, then it should absolutely be good enough for this Georgia makeup artist + mom!
Without further ado, here are the 5 products you should check out next time you’re scanning the drugstore beauty aisles…
Product : Pixi Beauty Glow Tonic, $15 – $29
Celebrity Makeup Artist who uses it : Katie Jane Hughes
I’ve been using this gentle glycolic acid for quite some time and am a big fan of it’s exfoliating properties for dry flaky skin. So I wasn’t surprised when I read that one of my fave Instagram MUA’s Katie Jane Hughes was also a fan. This is because Katie is a big proponent of great skincare AND showing realistic skin (ahem, pores and fine lines!). She doesn’t filter or photoshop her skin on Instagram because she doesn’t like to show “unrealistic beauty standards to other women.” I’m all for that kind of honest content. I use this water like exfoliant with a cotton round and swipe all over my face before moisturizer to give it a nice clean smooth canvas.
Product : L’Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Mascara, $8
Celebrity Makeup Artist who uses it : Makeup by Mario
One thing most makeup artists agree on, is that since you have to replace mascara so often, drugstore mascara is the way to go. And honestly, most of them work JUST as good as the higher end ones. Mario, who is famously known to be Kim Kardashian’s go-to mua for years now, has admitted to being a fan of this inky black L’Oreal mascara for over 15 years. I’d agree. The formula, the color, and the volume it gives is top notch. If you haven’t tried this mascara, you need to if you want look-at-me lashes for less.
Product : Milani Baked Blush, $9
Celebrity Makeup Artist who uses it : Patrick Ta
Blush is one of those products that doesn’t get enough love or use IMO. A great blush can literally boost your complexion and make you look happy and healthy with just a few swipes. On Target’s website, this Milani blush gets almost a perfect 5 stars out of 600+ reviews. Patrick, who also has his own line of high end cosmetics, says the Milani blushes are very comparable to most prestige brands and I’d agree. My fave shades are Luminoso (coral) and Dolce Pink (pink with a hint of golden I’m wearing in this video). It even contains a cute little mirror and small blush brush that you can use when on the go!
Product : Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser Concealer, $10
Celebrity Makeup Artist who uses it : Erin Parsons
I don’t ever want to know what it’s like to live without concealer, seriously. This one by Maybelline has been ranked as the #1 concealer in America and I know why. It’s hydrating, full coverage, but doesn’t feel too thick or get cake-y, is affordable, and comes in 18 shades. Even though Erin Parsons is the Global Makeup Artist for the brand, she often uses it on herself in tutorials and on one of her fave celebs, Gigi Hadid. Nuff said. Try it, you’ll like it!
Product : L’Oreal Rouge Signature Lightweight Matte Lip Stain, $12
Celebrity Makeup Artist who uses it : Sir John
When Beyonce’s main makeup artist says he loves using a product on her – I’m gonna go give it a shot! This was the one product I actually went out and purchased specifically after reading that he uses it on her. This lip stain has a feel unlike anything I’ve ever tried. It feels like water gliding over the lips, but smoother, if that makes sense. The finish dries to a matte shade (but not too matte) and is not drying whatsoever. I wish it came in more colors however, but the shade “I Choose” is the prettiest warm deep rose. The doe foot applicator makes it super easy to apply precisely where you want it to.
What are some of your favorite drugstore products you’ve bought lately? I’d love to know!
