Currently, our American senior citizens are facing increased food insecurity, issues of hunger, and isolation due to the current events of 2020.
I had the chance to personally do a ride along as a volunteer with the Meals On Wheels program here locally in Athens last year and see firsthand how it effects these seniors it serves.
The experience was very,
- eye opening,
- heart breaking,
- and heart warming all at the same time.
Heartwarming because it was wonderful to see the smiles on the faces of the seniors when we arrived at their doorstep. MOW makes sure that these three meals for the day meet the nutritional and social needs of these citizens.
The heartbreaking part was that this delivery from a volunteer, is sometimes the only interaction some of them get in a day.
