Does green eye makeup give you visions of leprechauns dancing in your head?
And when someone says the words “green” and “makeup” your first reaction might be “ewww, or, ugh, or, yikes!”
But it shouldn’t. With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, it is a fun reason to play with green makeup!! If you choose the right shade of green (Hello emeralds! very versatile for all eye colors) and placement you’re comfortable with, then you can totally pull this look off into your beauty routine. Minus looking like an alien 🙂
Check out these step by step photos of how I created this eye look then check below for detailed tips for how you too can incorporate wearing green eye makeup plus my product recs…
STEP BY STEP TUTORIAL:
- Start with an eyelid primer first, because you definitely don’t want shades of green traveling all over your face!
- Add an ivory shade of shadow all over the lid to brighten up the naked eye bed. I used MAC “Shroom,” – it’s the jam and has a beautiful subtle sheen to it.
- Then place an emerald shade of green shadow (the most flattering of greens in my opinion) right in the center of the lid from the lashes right up to the eye crease. Create an upside down half moon shape if you will. I used Kat Von D’s “Metallic Mermaid” – it’s super bold and pigmented!
- This is the part that in my opinion makes green wearable. Adding a neutral shadow around the perimeter of the green. I chose a warm brown, MAC “Uninterrupted,” but even a smokey grey or taupe would work. You just want to offset the green, so it’s not like, WOW, she’s wearing green eyeshadow!! It’s more of an afterthought.
- If this is as far as you want to take your look, then just add mascara on the upper and lower lashes, and a peach liner in that lower waterline to brighten up the eyeball.
- BUT, if you do want to take keep going for more drama, you can add a deep green eyeliner along the upper lash line and draw a small sideways v on the outer corner, then smudge with a liner brush to soften. I used NYX Slide On Glide On liner in “tropical green.”
- And one step further for the daring, swipe a lime green along the lower lash line and highlight your tear duct area with a candlelight shimmer shade (again used the MAC “Shroom” for this!).
Finish The Look.
Now that your eyes are taking center stage, pull back a little on the rest of your makeup and just add a soft peachy neutral cheek and lip. I used this It Cosmetics Disk for cheeks and the newest lipstick formula from MAC, their Retro Matte Liquid Lipstick in “Back in Vogue.” This lipstick is beautiful, super matte, but not drying at all on me.
Spring is here and it’s time to embrace the greens that are popping up in the grass and trees and now on your lids!! You can go green and look gorgeous doing it!!
