A velvet blazer screams “cool chick” does it not?!
I cannot believe it has taken me this long to own a velvet blazer. This plum Yesterday’s Muse Velvet Jacket from Free People is my first, and now will not be my last! When you throw on velvet, it just makes you want to party!
Want to see how much fun you can have in velvet?? Just take a peak at this short video created by JaWaViFilms of my recent photo shoot in downtown Athens, GA with my photog/friend Abbey on a gorgeous crisp December day (more on her below).
Ok y’all. If you have been following my blog for awhile, you know I have been taking most of my own photos (or maybe you didn’t!).
Mainly because they’re just 3/4 head shots for makeup purposes. Literally turning my camera around with one hand and holding my camera out as far as my arm will go, snapping myself, or putting it on a stand to take my own shots.
But when it comes to shooting my style and fashions, I have never really thought it would matter to hire a “professional” photographer. My hubby can do that right?? Not always. He has great video skills, don’t get me wrong, but working a still camera is a different animal…
Now that you’ve seen my fashion shoot in action, let these pictures speak for themselves that my uber talented friend/photographer Abbey Lindsey of Dylan Blue Photography took of how I styled my velvet jacket with my favorite item from my closet – denim. Throw in a cute wristlet, great lip color, boots, and your look is complete.
Hat : Nordstrom // Blazer : Free People // Denim : Old (really old!) similar style here // Tie Neck Blouse : sold out, similar here // Boots : Free People // Sunglasses : Elizabeth & James // Painted Wristlet : c/o Vera Bradley // Lipstick : MAC “Dare You”
When it comes to holiday outfits, sequin dresses immediately come to mind but this season I’m dropping the fancy and dressing up denim with this velvet blazer (it comes in 3 colors!).
While I always try to find any possible to way to wear my denim, I know that a blazer or jacket can really dress things up. Especially when it’s made of velvet!!I think styling a velvet jacket is understated and appropriate for any last minute holiday parties and even a casual New Years night out…Are you convinced how rock-n-roll velvet can make a gal feel??
*A big heartfelt thanks to Abbey of Dylan Blue Photography for making me look waaay cooler in these pictures than I am! I knew Abbey was wonderful at photographing children+ families but now I realize she can even photograph fashion! Girl has major skills!! Check out her amazing work on Facebook HERE.
*Also special thanks to my friends at Michael & Paula Hyman’s Showroom who rep the brand Free People for the southeast region. They made it possible for me to put this look together! Quick fact – I was an account exec for Free People many many years ago for their showroom that reps the wholesale side of multiple young contemporary lines. It was such a fun job and I am so thankful to still keep in close contact with my old bosses after all of these years! I am a lucky gal that I still have their help to keep this mom of 3 in the fashion know-how of what’s hot…and what’s not. Check out the Hyman Showroom HERE and what other brands they represent.
*And of course thank you for the cute video created by Scott (my hubs) of JaWaVi Films.
