You read it right, this is the most simple smoky eye tutorial ever. This is honestly one of my favorite makeup looks – even my husband requests it. And contrary to popular belief, it doesn’t have to consist of shading 5 to 6 different eyeshadows and liners. You don’t have to be a professional makeup person to pull off this makeup tutorial. Actually, the most effortless and simple smoky eye is the best. Letting go of trying to make it look perfect is part of its charm.
I am going to share with you the shortcut to getting the most wanted dramatic eye look in less time it takes to for me to get my kids to brush their teeth (if you’re a mom, you understand how time consuming this can be! hahaha!)…
Start with the right tools. Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette (obvious choice right??), a good dual ended eye shadow brush like this no-tug it Cosmetics one, and a navy eye pencil, Urban Decay 24/7 liner in “Minx.”
STEP 1. Apply a light matte bone color all over your lid, from lash line to eye brows. I used shade “thirteen” from the palette.
STEP 2. Line your entire eyelid and inner waterline (fleshy part of the inner eye) with the navy liner and flick out at the outer corners with the pencil. Don’t worry about making this a super straight line, it won’t matter after the next step!
STEP 3. Take shade “dagger” (which is a deep graphite charcoal) and smudge it all over the tops of the eyeliner and take the color right above your natural crease where you can feel your eye socket. Then finish off by smudging the same shadow all along the lower lash line to blur the lines for that smokey effect!
STEP 4. Apply your shimmer highlight color right along the tear duct area only, I used shade “high” from the palette.
STEP 5. Lots and lots of mascara on those upper and lower lashes!! Wearing my current fave (although a bit pricey at $32) Kevyn Aucoin “The Essential Mascara” because I swear it has little tiny fibers in the formula which gives me crazy lash volume!
Simple enough right? Now get out there and practice! You got this look.
(Final details : I finished off my look with L’Oreal Colour Extraordinaire in “Nude Ballet” lipgloss and blush from it Cosmetics.)
