I am always excited to see who ends up on the covers of the last month of the year in the fashion magazine world. It is usually going to be someone pretty awesome and spectacular to round out the end of the year. And this December, In Style did not disappoint with their cover model choice by picking the outstanding and gorgeous Gwen Stefani!
I have had a (healthy!) obsession with her ever since her No Doubt days. There really isn’t a look she can’t pull off. When she wears something totally out there, it looks totally normal and chic. And can we talk about the fact that she is a mom to three small boys but somehow always seems to be wearing the highest heeled shoes and boots when out and about with them?? That is fierce and takes some skill.
But despite her sometimes crazy clothing choices, her makeup look always comes back to that signature combination of stand out red lip and full brow. Such as she sports on this months cover. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it right??
Here is how to easily recreate Gwen’s rockstar-glam vibe for your next holiday party…
Shop My Products Used :
Ear Crawlers : Nordstrom // Red lip : MAC “Ruby Woo” // Brows : Anastasia Brow Wiz “Taupe” (I went lighter than normal with this color) & Maybelline Brow Drama “Soft Brown” // Eyeshadow : L’Oreal Infallible Shadows “Eternal Sunshine” (lash to crease) & “Iced Latte,” (highlight tear duct), MAC “Cork” (crease only) // Eyeliners : Stila “Topaz” (inner water line) & any black/brown liner (upper lash line) // Mascara : L’Oreal // Foundation : Estee Lauder “Ecru” // Concealer & Highlighter : It Cosmetics (light/medium) // Contour : MAC “groundwork” // Blush : Cover Girl “Soft Sable”
Like I said, Gwen’s look all boils down to the eyes and statement lips. Since her lips are so bold (Ruby Woo always commands attention!), she is smart to keep the eyes more minimalist. Pairing red lips with a gold shimmery eye is the perfect combo. (*Tip with Ruby Woo – it’s an extremely matte formula which can feel very dry, so if you need to, apply your favorite lip balm on newly exfoliated lips beforehand.)
She embraces her fair skin, so I tried to do the same here and not add any bronzer, just a slight contour with my brown based MAC paint pot under the cheekbones and along my nose to give me her amazing bone structure!! If I seem to have a slight shimmer under my eyes it’s thanks to my concealer/highlighter pen called “Eyelift in a Tube”– it’s ah-mazing. Of course if you want to really do it up, add a strip of false lashes on the uppers which I didn’t do here, but in hind sight, totally should have!
In terms of her actual outfit on the cover, it’s Carolina Herrera, which let me be real, I could NEVER afford that. But I took a cue from the silver appliqués and wore my new crystal ear crawlers that have major bling and are my new obsession! Ear crawlers look fierce and dress up a casual sweater or worn with a fancy cocktail dress! If you want to try and get her metallic outfit vibe, you could try these dresses here, here, and here.
Thank you Gwen for always being a super inspiring style icon and rockstar mama!
