There’s no better attention grabbing color than a bold stop-you-in-your- tracks-FIERY RED!
I own about every shade of red lipsticks you could think of. Hey, it’s part of my job description as a makeup artist!! Plus I have a good range of red clothing because I graduated from the University of Georgia and we live in Athens – it’s all about the red and black color combo.
To say I have a love affair with this bold color would be an understatement. When I put it on, whether it be lipstick, nail polish, or a piece of clothing, I feel empowered.
I just ordered this Forever21 sundress (only $27 right now!), and in the description it was labeled as “fiery red.” Hmmm, will it be more cherry red or tomato red? When I received it, it was definitely more orangey-red, almost like what I would think fire would look like. This dress will get a lot of wear even after the temps cool off with boots and a denim jacket added.
The next big question, what lipstick did I have that could mimic this hot color?? After scrambling though all of my reds, a great idea came to me. Why don’t I combine two of my favorite red lipstick shades to create a NEW red. *Gasp* Why haven’t I thought of that before instead of buying another new red lipstick??
Here is a look at the outcome…
Two of my favorite red lip colors, both by MAC Cosmetics are: “Ruby Woo” (a matte blue red) + “Lady Danger” (orange based cream red). Adding them together, ends up being a most awesome blend. (Mine are in a MAC Pro Palette with a few other reds, but you can buy them separately, just FYI)
Steps to getting the look :
1. Apply a concealer or foundation all over your lips to get your lips all one neutral color.
2. Using a lip brush like this MAC one, helps you to get a more precise application. Start with the matte Ruby Woo and outline the lips then lightly fill in entire lip.
3. Then using the same lip brush, take the bright creamy orange red, Lady Danger, and fill in just the center of the upper and lower lip. Voila! A perfect blend of reds!
4. I completed my look with a blend of neutral shadows of browns + golds from my Urban Decay Naked palette (the original one), $54.
