It is hot hot hot here in Georgia. Like one hundred degrees kind of hot. Like I can hardly breathe. And it’s hard to feel cute in these types of temps. However, there are a few staples that I have in my wardrobe and on my bathroom vanity that ensure I can look cool even when I’m roasting! Here are 6 of them that can work for you too!
1. The Perfect White Tee & White Shorts. We all know that dark colored clothing is a no-no if you want to stay cool in the sun. The color white is the best option for not soaking up those sun rays. When it comes to tees, it has to be a v-neck for me because they’re more cooling than a crew neck in my opinion. I don’t feel like I’m choking on my tee shirt!
The vintage v neck I’m wearing in this post is from J.Crew here, and is absolute perfection. They are typically $29.50, but right now with the code : GOSHOPPING, they are 30% off!! What?!! I currently own two colors, but now I want every other color they offer. You just can’t beat investing in a good white tee – it can be dressed up, down, worn with jeans or a skirt, fancy necklace or over a bikini. I bought smalls in this super soft cotton style if you are wondering and I’m 5’5″ just for reference. (For some reason my links kept going to their Canadian site so make sure to just switch to USA if that’s where you live up top.)
Wearing white on white – a DO in my book! So fresh and clean looking! I paired my white tee with these inexpensive Forever21 white distressed denim cutoffs, $17.90, and they are super comfy. I ordered a size 27 to give them a little bit of room so they weren’t extremely tight. White shorts also go with everything just like a white tee.
2. Straw Hat. My BCBG Straw Fedora, $32 is being worn on repeat. Because let’s face it, if my forehead is sweating, a hat hides that so stylishly! A neutral colored straw hat goes with all colors too -black, white, pink, blue, etc. It is an effortless cool look and also works just as good in town as it does on the beach in a bikini! It’s also killer for bad hair days or lazy hair days! Much more chic than a baseball cap.
3. Shiny Neutral Gloss. I die for a bold bright lip but sometimes when you’re sweating like crazy and wiping your upper lip, well that bold color starts melting all over your face – ugh, not cute. So a good nourishing shiny neutral gloss is the perfect answer for summer days. I’m loving L’Oreal le glosses, $6, because they’re not sticky and feel so good on due to Vitamin E and Argan Oil ingredients. I’m sporting shade, “Really Rose” a lot lately because, well, it’s really pretty.
4. Makeup Setting Spray. I’ve repeated myself many times – it’s hot, heat makes makeup melt. It can’t hurt to have a hairspray for your makeup. I use Urban Decay All Nighter Makeup setting spray, $30, on every summer bride I work with because they need extra help with makeup staying put. Good news is, not just brides deserve it, the every woman does!! Squirt this about 4-5 times after your makeup is complete to give a little extra help in making that pretty face stay. (Bonus – it feels super cooling when you spray it too!)
5. Realistic Self Tanner. Just because it’s summer, doesn’t mean I have tons of time to lay out in the sun. And it’s not even that good for you anyway to bake in the rays!! I’m dying over how great this new Jergens Instant Sunless tanning mousse, $12.00, is. It dries in two minutes, smells amazing, and looks so realistic – more of a red based tan than an orange one. You can see it go on immediately so you know if it’s streaky or not. This is a new fave of mine and is a great cheap alternative to my other $$ St. Tropez mousse.
6. A Good Hairspray. Whatever hairstyle you are sporting this summer, you want your strands to stay put! And this Moroccan Oil Luminous spray in Firm, is absolutely the best way to get a good non-sticky hold. And the best thing about it – it smells ah-mazing!! I can’t even explain what their secret fragrance is that makes it smell so good, but the heat actually makes your hair smell even better!! My husband even notices this scent and loves it. That says a lot.
This line is kind of hard to find because it is exclusive to salons (I found a few things on Amazon.com), but luckily if you live in Athens, GA, Salon DM3 carries the entire line. Thank goodness!
