What is most women’s goal when it comes to picking the right foundation, bb cream, tinted moisturizer, etc? It is to get flawless-Instagram-like-filtered skin from whatever product they choose.
While I was attending The Makeup Show in NYC recently (blog post here and here on my experience) I sat through a demonstration put on by the mega makeup brand Make Up For Ever. It was a demo where one of the MUFE makeup artists was showing how their HD Invisible Skin foundation looked on camera. They had a huge movie grade camera set up and were displaying the model (who was actually a random passerby who had zero makeup on!) on a large screen for all of us to see the products as they were applied.
Once they were done with the ladies skin transformation, I walked right up to the booth, got color matched with my very own bottle of Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Foundation in shade 120, and walked away excited to see if it would perform the same magic on my skin.
Here are a few before and after photos and my thoughts and review of this much hyped foundation formula…
I had to add this picture of my sweet Walker because he has envious perfect skin!! Well, he is only 7 so that helps but he is my child that ALWAYS tells me how pretty I am. I can count on him to compliment me and notice when I wear a new lipstick or when I have actually taken time to do my hair! He is going to make some lady very happy one day:)
Ok, back to my thoughts on this HD friendly foundation. I always like to do reviews by copying what the manufacturer says about the product then putting my opinion next to it to see if it lives up to the claims.
What it is:
An oil-free medium-to-full-coverage liquid foundation that covers skin imperfections flawlessly while remaining invisible on-screen and in real life. I agree with the medium to almost full coverage foundation. It is such a thin liquid that I think it feels more like a tinted moisturizer and I have definitely used foundations that have thicker more opaque coverage than this one. I have dry skin but the fact that it is oil free doesn’t make me feel like it dries my skin out at all thank goodness. I do agree that it feels like it is invisible once applied and I don’t look like I have on a bunch of makeup – it’s my skin just better.
I applied this with no skin primer to really test it out and I applied two thin layers – letting the first one dry for about 45 seconds before applying the second.
What it does:
This HD foundation creates a soft-focus effect, which is designed to meet the coverage concerns of those in the spotlight. It leaves your complexion with such a flawless finish, it can withstand bright or harsh lighting. Granted, I’m not on the big screen or TV ever, but in real life, it does a fine job of covering my concerns. Yes, I have been blessed with fairly good skin (thanks mom and dad) and don’t have many issues to cover up – just a little redness here and there and some mild dark circles, so this foundation is just perfect for me. I’d say the soft focus effect is pretty on point.
Overall, I’d give this foundation an 8.5 out of 10. It’s just a little pricey at $43 a bottle but it suggests not to use a whole lot to achieve great skin, so hopefully it will last a long time. Will I ever give a makeup product a 10 out of 10?? We will see..
