My boys could care less really when it comes to their clothing at their ages right now, but they do have their quirks. My oldest, Jack, only likes to wear tall socks and is a complete rule follower, he longs to make people happy. My middle child, Walker, always wants his hair to look perfect and we lovingly compare him to “Animal” from the Muppets because he acts so crazy. And then there’s my sweet 3 yr old Vivian. She might have more opinions on her clothing and hair than I do at 36. She hates wearing denim (what?!), only wants to wear leggings, and despite her extreme girly love for lipgloss, she still wants to attempt to hang with everything her brothers do.
I’ll be honest, I take great joy in figuring out what I want to wear or look like each day. It’s like I can recreate myself daily. And when I work with a client, I always start off asking them, “What do YOU want to look like?” Even though I am considered the expert when it comes to makeup, I want to find out what their current makeup style is and where they want to go with it. Not everyone wants to wear multiple layers of products and colors like I do everyday. So what I think is best, isn’t always going to be their style. I’m just there to lead them in the direction they want to go and give them the tools to get there.
Just like the approach I want to be taking with my kids in every aspect of their lives. I’m there for support, not to completely change them. Happy Monday everyone!!
*This pic was taken on a visit to their grandmother’s hair salon she’s been going to since she was a teenager!! My kids had never seen these hair dryers (reminiscent of the ones in the beauty school dropout scene in the movie Grease) and were fascinated by these machines. Jack thought they looked like space helmets!*
