Wednesday PowWow : Rule Follower Or Color Outside Of The Lines
{Vivian showing how she colors outside the lines with lipstick.}
Today I’m reflecting on a subject that I always feel I need to work on. Coloring outside of the lines in my family life and work life. What I mean is that by nature, I’m mostly a rule follower.
“LIFE BEGINS AT THE END OF YOUR COMFORT ZONE.”
Yes, with my makeup I am never afraid to experiment or step out of the neutral box. Wearing electric blue eyeliner to my kids morning mommy breakfast is completely reasonable. But when it comes to being daring or doing new things out of my comfort zone in work and family life, it’s hard to take the first step. Like contacting someone totally random that I want to collaborate with on my blog or taking my kids to a Japanese restaurant to try something other than cheese pizza that I KNOW they’ll eat, those things are hard for me. I know these may seem small and trivial, but sometimes I feel like I want to just throw some of my old and safe routines out the door and see what happens. If nothing good comes of trying something new, then at least I will have tried and can say I did it and learn from it.
As a parent, I must say kids thrive on routine and it makes them feel comfortable to do things they know and are used to. But on the flip side, I sometimes feel I’m doing them a disservice by not introducing new activities, foods, etc. My 7 year old has never gone on a sleepover because I’m too chicken to let him leave my house overnight. Although I’m quite positive, he’d find it super fun!! I need to let go.
What type of person are you? Can you throw caution to the wind or would you rather be wearing a helmet and knee pads when it comes to everyday life and work?
