I believe some rules are made to be broken, especially when it comes to makeup application. However, there are some hard fast rules I always stick by that work for me without fail.

1. Apply an eye cream every day and/or night. Keep it on your night stand in a cute dish (like mine above) as a reminder before bed or right after you wake up for easy application on a clean face! No one wants crows feet, no one.
2. Wash your face EVERY NIGHT. This goes without saying. Even for those of you that don’t wear a lick of makeup (are you really out there??) you’re still getting dirt in your pores just from living and breathing and walking around. It’s the best thing you can do for your skin. Here are some of my favorite skin care products blogged here.
3. Mascara and concealer are the top 2 products that produce the most awake eyes. If you apply nothing else, apply these two for the biggest impact on your face. Here’s how to take the confusion out of applying + picking your concealer here
4. Don’t match your eye shadow to your eye color if you want to highlight your eyes. The best way to maximize your natural eye color to pop, is to use a contrasting shade of shadow. For example, check out the color wheel you learned about in elementary school. Find your eye color on the color wheel, then look straight across to the opposite side to see what shadow shades you should be using. For example – blue eyes look great in golds/bronzes, greens look wonderful in plums/burgundy’s, if you’ve got brown eyes, the color wheel is your playground!! You can wear them all!
5. Blush is a MUST. If you’ve got an 15 extra seconds, apply a cheek color to wake up your skin tone!! We lose a lot of natural color in our face as we age and this is the quickest and easiest way to get that healthy color back.
