I usually leave the glittery makeup products to the stage productions, dance recitals, and Halloween costumes. Glitter products can be too much for the average every day woman over 18 and can tend to look kind of, um, well, tacky & juvenile?! However, I have fallen in love with the idea of this gold based glitter eye liner from NYX above, which is about the most sophisticated shade of glitter on the market in my opinion. And what woman doesn’t like a teeny bit of sparkle in her life??
Here are the only 2 principle rules I apply when sporting sparkly liner:
1. Above all else, keep the rest of your makeup super low key and neutral so as not to fight with the in-your-face glitter! If you want to be taken seriously and not looking like you’re in the circus!
2. With this exact product, the more layers is NOT the better. I found after a couple of uses, that when I kept layering and layering, the glitter liner would pull off in sheets and didn’t have great staying power. With the blue shadow look – there’s only one coat of liner on top, with the brown shadow look, there’s 2 layers on top and bottom lash line. I only winged this liner out very slightly at the corners of my eyes as well.
*Precaution : I own these NYX liners in multiple shades, however, for some reason, the glitter ones have a small warning sticker on them that says “not intended to be used around the eye area.” Huh?? It’s an eyeliner? But I did it anyway of course, and when I layered it too many times and got it in my eye near the tear duct, well, yeh, it did sting a little bit! Just a warning if you get this product. It hasn’t stopped me from using it however, I just keep it away from the inside of my eyeball – ha!!*
Do you, or would you, wear glitter eyeliner?
