Let’s face it, who doesn’t want to look a bit younger than their actual age after they’ve reached the ripe old age of 25 and above??
Scenario: I’m not gonna lie, if I’m at a restaurant with my kids (or even without) and order a glass of wine, my server BETTER ask for my ID to check my age, or it ruins the rest of my night, seriously. If you add 12 years to the legal drinking age you’ve got my real age, but I want to get as close to looking 21 as possible.
One of the most popular requests I get when I work with a client or even a friend/family member, is to “make me look younger and not so tired!” So I am going to share with you my top 5 makeup tips for shaving off a couple years from your face by using your makeup. These are going to be easier to implement than you think- no knives or fillers necessary;-) I will fill you in on the products I have personally used on my face in these photos.
1. Keep your brows and lashes FULL. I did a blog here with my best how-to brow tips, and about how fuller brows are much more youthful looking as opposed to tweezing the heck out of them. Same idea goes for your lashes. A full voluptuous lash line is very feminine and youthful so pile on the mascara, but keep it mainly along the top lash line. Two to three coats every time for max lashes! (L’Oreal Voluminous mascara in very black)
2. Fake that fuller lash line with GREY eyeliner. Black liner is too harsh on some people and brown can be just boring. But grey liner can give your eyes that subtle pop of color that is a nice medium in between black and brown. It’s a soft shade that looks great on all eye colors and boosts your natural lash line just enough without being too obvious. (Palladio herbal eye liner in “smokey”)
3. Give skin some dewy dimension. A flat one dimension colored face looks old, point blank. I know everyone wants a flawless perfect face, but when it comes to skin, you need a bit of dewiness to appear more youthful. I add a bit of liquid highlighter to my foundation or tinted moisturizer to give my skin some “inner glow.” (Jemma Kid Mannequin Skin complexion enhancer)
4. Wear blush- everyday!! Think baby cheeks with a flushed look. No flush, no good. Peaches and pink tones are the way to go. The color should be high on the cheek bone applied in a small circular motion. (Nars blush in “orgasm”)
5. Use a sheer lip color. As we age, our lips thin out, which is a bummer. So in order to keep the illusion of a plumper more youthful lip, we should stick to sheer lip colors and glosses as opposed to dark matte shades. Dark shades tend to settle into the wrinkles around the mouth (what could be a worse look??), so glossy sheer colors are tons more flattering on a thinning lip because they don’t look like they’re trying too hard. (L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche le Gloss in Red Ravishing)
Implement one or all of these tips, and then you’re guaranteed to shave a year or two off. Prime examples of these makeup tricks can be seen if you check out the transformation section of the In Style magazine website here. You will notice on most of the female celebrities featured, that the ones who get better with age, go from wearing too much heavy makeup in their earlier years (which ages them) to lightening up as the years progress to present day- Dame Helen Mirren is my fave!!
