Y’all know I can always sway a blog post into something that has to do with makeup even if it has nothing to do with lipstick or powder- that’s just how I roll.
I feel like a little kid who’s excitement is brewing and counting down the days until Christmas Eve. Only this time, I am an adult waiting for this Friday August the 5th until I get to walk back through the doors of the newly renovated Georgia Theatre to see a concert featuring southern rock band Blackberry Smoke. And they are saying that a very special guest will be joining them- which I’m dying to know who it could be after checking out their website and seeing all the famous acts they’ve hob-nobbed (is this an actual word??) with before!! This will be QUITE a different concert experience than the last concert I went to here with my girlfriends, and should no doubt be a reeealllly raucous and good time. You could say I have a pretty big range of music genres I like to listen to.
**Scroll down to the end of this blog for a “Blackberry Smoke” inspired makeup look. Think plums and blackberry stained lips…**
Why is this “makeover” such a big deal you ask?? Well you can read about the massive fire that took down the legendary Theatre back in June of 2009 HERE and even the New York Times mentioned the fire here – it was that BIG of a deal. The Georgia Theatre is basically an Athens GA monument where famous bands and names like R.E.M., Widespread Panic, John Mayer, and many many others have graced the stage. I even mentioned its name on my Pretty Perky in 5 Minutes blog here back in 2008!! The Theatre is a more intimate setting than any big coliseum or cookie cutter arena, which to me makes your concert experience much more fun and personal. This venue was a big deal to me while attending the University of Georgia back in my college days because you always knew no matter who was playing on that stage, you were still gonna have a blast being there.
I love this city that I live in because of all of the small businesses, people, and entertainment it has to offer. So I’m especially looking forward to my concert night out this weekend and seeing how Athens beloved Georgia Theatre looks after its massive makeover.
Onto the actual makeup aspect of the blog!! My blackberry smoke inspired look.
My two main ingredients (colors) for this look:
1. Nars eye shadow in “moulin rouge”, unfortunately not available anymore. But the color looks like an actual blackberry but matte. You can see the tiny shadow I’m holding above.
2. Lancome Color Design lipstick in “edgy” ($22- a sheer berry plum).
To keep the look from being too vampy or overdone with the dark colors, I kept the eyes simple by applying the dark shadow mainly in the crease, leaving some lighter areas on the brow and next to the lash line. I also skipped eyeliner all together and just loaded on the mascara.
I decided to use the same dark tone on my eyes and lips which I don’t usually do- I usually go dark on one feature and not the other for balance. But I bucked tradition this time, and I think it actually works! I also skipped actual blush and just used my Too Faced Cosmetics Snow Bunny bronzer for a hint of shimmer and color.
What’s your opinion on dark lips and eyes worn on the same face- Do you think it works?
