One of the biggest questions I get from people is, “Where’d you get the name JennySue Makeup from??” Many people assume my name is actually JennySue…well, kinda.
When deciding to come up with the LLC name for my freelance makeup business, I had to make sure I could live with the name I came up with. It’s not just something you can take lightly, and change the name around every couple months or so when you think of something better or the mood strikes you! You need consistency and brand recognition, and you can’t get that by constantly changing the name of your business/product! Yes, I could have just used my actual first and last name and called it a day, but it didn’t have that pizzazz I was looking for and it didn’t roll off the tongue.
So I dug deep to think of a name that would actually have some sort of meaning behind it. Which meant that:
- It would have to have something to do with the art of makeup – in some form or fashion.
- It would have to have a bit of my original name in it.
My backstory on the name goes like this. It starts with my grandmother, who I lovingly called “Granny.” She was the only grandparent I had from both sides of my family who lived in the same city as me, so I was fortunate enough to spend a lot of time with her growing up. She was a tough cookie, to put it lightly, but in the same light, loved me with all of her heart and always made sure to let me know it. Whether it was by actually saying the words “I love you” or by making my favorite ham and cheese and mayonnaise sandwhich and cutting it into 4 perfect squares, she let me know.
Granny also had a couple cats and dogs in her house throughout the years. But one animal in particular really fascinated me. It was a Siamese cat and she named it JennySue. Now to backtrack a little, my parents gave me the name Jennifer Suzanne when I was born- shorten that, and you’ve got Jenny and Sue. And the reason this cat fascinated me so much, was because A. it basically had my same name and B. it looked like it had permanent eyeliner on (it was also cross eyed- which was kinda cute!). I thought this was cat was beautiful, even at a young age. I couldn’t find an actual picture of her kitty, but here is a photo of this breed of cats. They are known to have a dark mask around the center of their face.
