I must admit, I was a bit nervous after I decided to give my readers complete control over picking my new haircut for the new year. Especially after the one you all picked was over 4 inches shorter than what my current hair style was! And I don’t typically get my hair “cut” when I go to my stylist, I usually ask for a “trim.”
So you all picked the Cameron Diaz hair cut. With great swoopy bangs and collarbone length hair. Gulp.

Man, did I need a hair cut, and I didn’t even realize it until I saw my before pictures!! I want to say a huge huge thanks to my stylist extraordinaire, Lyric, from Republic Salon here in Athens GA. You worked a miracle on my long mane and I am super thrilled with the outcome!! Lyric also filled me in on a little trick that makes Cameron’s bangs look so perfectly “swooped” in that pic above (which btw, isn’t natural). You just add a very small flat clip to the chunk of bangs and clip them underneath the rest of your hair right over your ear, then use a small comb to pull the bang down as far as you can on the forehead until you get the desired look.
We didn’t have time to work on this at the salon, but I did it at home and it works- very sneaky those celebrities are- that’s a little too much effort though and I def won’t be doing this in my everyday life!! I live a playdate life, not a red carpet life;-)
You know you got a good hair do, when you arrive home, and your 4.5 and 2.5 yr old sons say, “Mommy, you got a hair cut, you look SO pretty!!” They both wanted to take my picture with my new cut, and I must say, they took some great photos that showcase my wonderful new layers. Even my husband said after looking at me a couple of times, “you kinda look like a celebrity?!”
I’ve gotten some emails asking where I got my top from- it’s actually a We The Free Top, you can get on freepeople.com, their stuff is always extremely unique. So once again, thank you thank you thank you to everyone that voted and got it right with my new shorter cut. I’m glad I put my look in your hands. And of course, thanks to Lyric and Republic Salon for allowing me to have such a great experience and making me look so fabulous!!!
