I know I talk a lot about how a new lipgloss color makes me smile a little more or how a new perfume scent can lift my day, but I’m not ONLY about the beauty products. There are other things in my life that I hold dear and can make me happier than any lip plumper that ACTUALLY works! Ha!!
With the holidays in full swing there are many things that have me pretty pumped lately. And if you care to find out what they are, well read on!!
# 1. I downloaded the Cast of Glee’s Christmas Album, and it is awesome!!!
If you love Christmas songs like I do, (the classics mainly) but can appreciate them with a slight twist with some really great singing, this is for you. There are 12 tracks and honestly my kids think I’m slightly nuts how loud I turn this up in my car on the way to taking them to school. Glee’s “Deck the Halls” rendition is rousing and I can’t sing it loud enough!! It literally makes me smile just thinking about the song.
#2. I made a peanut butter ice cream pie for a Christmas get together, actually I made two, and it was one of the easiest and yummiest treats I’ve made to date. It was my husbands idea to put green and red sprinkles in the shape of a Christmas tree on the top- so festive huh?? All you do is mix peanut butter, confectioners sugar, and vanilla extract and spread it in the bottom of a chocolate pie crust to freeze for about 40 minutes. Then you soften some real vanilla ice cream until it’s easy enough to spread evenly (around 20 minutes sitting on your counter) on top of the peanut butter mixture then freeze it overnight. Tastes complicated, but couldn’t be more simple!! Sweet treats are what make the holidays so much fun, but pretty sure they’re not listed on my P90X workout plan😉
#3. My 2.5 yr old decided it was time for a professional to cut his shaggy hair.
Up until now, I have been cutting his hair at home in the backyard, the bathtub, anywhere I can get him to stay still for atleast 2 minutes. And needless to say, I am NO barber. Makeup artist and hairstylist are two totally different talents. The last couple times we tried to take him to Mr. Haircut (where my husband and 4.5 yr old get their hair done) he acted like he was being attacked by alligators- I’m serious, it was awful. So when he said to me the other morning he was finally ready to have Mrs. Susan cut his hair (the sweet woman who tried to give him his first hair cut when he melted down!), I jumped at the chance to give this another try. If at first you don’t succeed, try try again, right?? He has had bad hair for too long thanks to my lack of skills.
And check out the finished result- a wonderful handsome hair cut!! Not sure if you can see my huge smile in the mirror reflection behind him, but I just couldn’t have been more proud of how still he sat and how good he was during his time in the chair. This might not seem like a big deal to most, but to this mom, I’ve been waiting 2.5 years for this nice clean hair cut and even more to see that my boy can handle sitting still in a barber chair without flipping out. It shows me he is truly growing up before my very eyes.
So if you can go away with something simple from this blog, it is to enjoy the little things in your day to day life. Because sometimes those little things can mean the most and make the lasting impressions. Hopefully the peanut butter ice cream pie doesn’t make a lasting impression on my thighs….
UPDATE :: I just received a nice comment from one of my wonderful blog followers referencing a favorite YouTube video of mine. This video was taken about a year and a half ago. My husband took my oldest son to a Georgia/Florida basketball game and the Dawgs won at the buzzer. I love how excited both of them got at the end of the game…like I said, “It’s The Little Things”.
