Life Is Short, Be Silly, Wear A Moustache

So the other night my husband and I went out to eat with our two boys, ages 2 and 4. Which if you have children or younger siblings, you know can be hit or miss with how relaxing or easy the dining experience can go…it’s a toss up. But our meal actually went pretty smooth this time with very few tantrums as to what type of beverage each would drink, who would color with which color crayon on the paper menu, and how long they could actually stand to be sitting in their seat.

At the end of the meal, we were walking out of our neighborhood Loco’s Grill & Pub (it’s a very family friendly place here in town, because it is usually LOUD!) when my 4 year old AND my husband who both can’t walk by a gumball machine without stopping, decided to put a quarter into the “moustache machine.” Yes, instead of using their money to buy Skittles or

rings, they chose to buy the fake moustache in a can, a la Tom Selleck (the ultimate ‘stache man on the right). We all took our turn at trying on the funny black caterpillar looking thing and it gave us all a good laugh for atleast 10 minutes while making our way to the car.

It showed me that even though we all looked completely ridiculous, we didn’t care about the stares we were getting from the other patrons walking into the restaurant because we were having such a good time! We should all be silly sometimes because life is too short to be serious all the time. I think a lot of us expend too much energy worrying about how others will perceive us or what they think of us (yours truly guilty!). We’d probably all be more effective and happy in our daily lives if we didn’t spend so much time worrying about what others thought of us and just went with our gut or with what makes us happy. I’m not saying you have to go out and find your own fake moustache to brighten your day, but try to do something that is lighthearted or contains a little bit of comedy to help bring some sunshine into your day.
