All the hype about the upcoming Tim Burton/Disney rendition of Alice in Wonderland has got me super duper excited! I love the magical-yet weird-story of Alice and her wonderland and of course the Mad Hatter. Especially since he’s being played by super talented (and hot) Johnny Depp!
The trailers of the movie show some fantastic makeup of course, and the Red Queen’s (played by Helena Bonham Carter) definitely caught my eye. Her overblown head with the bright blue eyeshadow and overdone bow red lips is fantastic. So I figured this very 80’s/fantasy combination could be understated a bit for everyday wear by downplaying the amount of blue and sticking with neutral colored lips.
Check out my version of blue eyelids. The key is to just apply the blue to the upper lids, and use a more neutral color in the crease to tone down the blue-ness.
I used the following products in this exact order to create this look:
- All over lid. Matte ivory shadow.
- Lid to crease. Nars “Sugarbaby” eyeshadow ($23) which is a very powder blue.
- Eyeliner. Mark metallic hook up eyeliner in “blue chrome” ($6).
- Crease. Lancome’s color design eyeshadow in “mochaccino” ($17). This is one of my favorite taupey browns!
- Mascara. Lancome’s Hypnose ($24) mascara in black on upper and lower lashes.
Here’s an overall look of me with my blue eyes on my brown eyes! By NOT powdering my entire lid like miss Red Queen, it keeps me from looking like a character in a movie…or a bad 1985 MTV video.
