So my newest red head “girl crush” would have to be Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks. This woman is ridiculously beautiful and works her red hair with just the right makeup to compliment her coloring. And after doing some investigating on her, I found out that, GASP, she’s NOT a natural red head!! She apparantly is a blonde who has been dying it red since the age of 12! But either way, this woman does red right, so I don’t care.
If you are a red head and struggle with what makeup choices to make for your skin tone and hair color, here’s a little cheat sheet to help you look Christina worthy:
1. Fair Skin. 9 times out of 10, if you’ve got naturally red hair, your skin is probably pretty fair. Keep it that way and celebrate it!! Use porcelain toned foundation to help cover any redness in your skin and to hide blemishes. Use very fair face powder or even translucent powder for finishing.
2. Careful with the Bronzer. Don’t use really tan colored bronzer or you’ll end up looking like an oompaloompa! If using bronzer at all, stick with the lightest color you can find and use it mainly as a halo around the perimeter of your face and light sweeps across the T zone at most. You don’t see Mrs. Christina trying to look like she has Salma Hayek’s skin do you? She rocks the pale skin, and it’s PRETTY!
3. Stick with Cool Toned Eye Makeup & Lips. This means avoid any reddish products which will just end up making you look tired. Stick with purples, lilacs, graphite grays,
Maybe instead of completely wrecking my hair by trying to go red, I’ll just hit up a wig shop and buy the most awesome Christina-like wig I can find!
