The arrival of fall brings an exciting chill in the air and warmly hued leaves decorate the trees and the ground…
Buuuuttt, if you live in Georgia like me, you might actually be feeling a not-so-exciting heat wave in the air. “Hello 80 degrees on November 1st!! Ugh.” None the less, the colder temps are a comin’ and this unusual warmness isn’t going to keep me from keeping the faith that my jackets and boots will soon come in handy.
So to help you with some inspiration as to what fall style & beauty trends you should be trying out, my fashion blogger friend Lauren Lefevre, of EditbyLauren.com, and I made this video for you!! We went into one our favorite stores, Nordstrom, to showcase 3 trends each in beauty and fashion, that you can copy.
Your BEAUTY Routine : Don’t forget about your makeup routine when the seasons change! You should have fun switching it up when the temps drop! Most everyone’s skin tone goes a bit lighter in the fall/winter and our overall clothing vibe tends to darken with more fall and winter colored clothing. So naturally, you should add some new products to make your look more fall-ish.
TOP 3 BEAUTY TRENDS.
Here are my TOP 3 TRENDS IN BEAUTY with links to the products mentioned in the above video for you to easily click and shop if you like!
1st trend : Jewel toned shimmer and glitter eyes. Yes, contrary to popular belief, grown up women CAN wear shimmer and glitter on the lids. For autumn and winter it has a sophisticated feel when done in small doses on the eyes in the right color family.
Painting your lids or just swiping a jewel toned shadow across your lash line can really brighten your face up when the weather and our skin starts to look a little drab. Jewel tones are anything like emerald green, navy or sapphire blue, plum, etc. For the more liner skilled, try the Bobbi Brown Long Wear Liquid Glitter Liners. They can give you the perfect winged eye with a bit of sparkle and spunk! No eyeshadow necessary when using this product, just mascara and you’re done!
If you’re terrified of liquid liner, no worries. Try the Clinique Chubby Shadow Tint Sticks that are smooth, creamy, and with a hint of shimmer that you can just swipe across the lid and smudge in the soft jewel tones with your finger if you want! No sharp lines, just a soft wash of color that doesn’t fall flat.
2nd trend : Dark vampy lips. It happens pretty much every year when the temps start to fall – women start gravitating towards a darker lip. This year is no different, and it’s all about the vampy, almost gothic dark lip! You can rock it from a deep cranberry and/or burgundy all the way to a darkish plum.
Just pair it with a very minimal makeup face, think mascara (always), a little champagne shadow, and a tinted moisturizer with a light blush. This type of bold lip has a “don’t mess with me” kinda confident vibe!
I’m wearing the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro (I’m sure I screwed up the pronunciation in the video!) in color “Orient,” in the video and in the pics below. Remember my post highlighting this exact color up close here? But if you’re not comfortable with an opaque dark lippy, try a stain such as this YSL Vinyl Cream lip stain and dab a tiny bit on your finger then rub into the lips until it soaks in and looks like popsicle stain. This is a great way for you to rock the vampy lip without going at it 200%!
3rd trend : Dewy Highlighted skin. It’s a known fact our skin tends to go a bit lackluster into the winter and to go a little paler than it is when we are sunbathing on beaches in summer!! So there are two great ways to fix that.
You could add a thin liquid bronzer with a bit of sheen to it with your liquid foundation or bb cream. Like thisiconic Nars Laguna Liquid bronzer, where I would squirt a dime sized worth onto the back of your hand with your face makeup and mix together and rub in with your favorite sponge or foundation brush to get an even spread of warmth added to your skin.
Or, if paleness isn’t your problem, but dull skin is, you could swipe a highlighting blush in a warm champagne shade onto your cheekbones and a little down the center of your nose. This Bobbi Brown Intensity blush duo is awesome.
Your Style : With the changing of seasons, most of us get into the mode of thinking about what we can wear fit into from last years fall wardrobe and and what to add to them that might be on trend.
TOP 3 FASHION TRENDS.
Here are Lauren’s TOP 3 STYLE TRENDS she highlighted as musts for autumn and winter!
1st Trend : Burgundy handbags and shoes. You might not believe this, but I just got my first burgundy handbag a couple months ago and seriously thought that it wouldn’t go with anything in my closet. Woah, was I wrong. This shade literally goes with almost everything!! You gotta add this color bag to your fall closet essentials. Now to buy the same color shoes…
- Rebecca Minkoff small leather crossbody
- Tory Burch harper leather tote
- Marc Jacobs camera leather bag
- Burgundy shoes category link here
- Lauren’s fave open toe bootie here
2nd Trend : The over the knee boots. As a whole, Lauren said that EVERY size and height of lady can pull this boot off. I believe her, but don’t own an over the knee pair…yet!! I will say, they’re sexier than a strappy heel in my opinion and add such a flare to any outfit! I definitely love them over a super skinny pair of denim.
Here is a link to see all the options of over the knee boots at Nordstrom. Plus here are her Vince Camuto favorites that she’s wearing in the video that are currently ON SALE!!
And if you just can’t get on the OVER the knee boots train, try the UP TO the knee boots like these I styled here from Ugg.
3rd Trend : Distressed raw hem denim. I have been a big fan of distressed denim for a loonng time, so I’m really glad this trend is sticking around. The good news is, you can go major distressed and raw, or just slightly raw with just a hem fray as Lauren suggested. You’ve got options on sporting this style trend.
Here is a link to this category of denim in all shades and sizes. This is a similar pair to the ones I’m wearing in this video in a lighter shade.
